the Art of Living Well
Contemplative Tea Ceremony
Health & Wellbeing Through a Tea Talk with Dr. Schaffer and Mr. Brophy
Service Description
Each individual will have the opportunity to glaze their own tea cup which will be fired through Raku-Yaki 楽 焼, an ancient Japanese ceremony dating back to the 16th Century. Professional Artist & Chef Mathew Brophy will lead us through the creative process of firing the glazed teacups to an orange, glowing molten state. The cups will then be removed from the fire and allowed to cool through an oxidation process that will bring out unique colors and textures. Each participant will be able to keep their own teacup to carry on their own practices at home! After the teacups are cooled, each participant will be able to enjoy an individually brewed cup of tea, and Dr. Heather Kline Schaffer will lead us through a meditative practice in contemplation of the Art of Living Well.
